Make connections quickly and reliably with this breakout board, which brings every pin of its DB9 connector out to screw or spring terminals.
This breakout board comes mounted in an attractive case. It is available with either Thumbscrews or Jack Screws for connector hardware.
See pricing table below for all part numbers. This product is available with both male and female connectors.
This breakout board is perfect for production applications as well as experimentation and prototype work. It is helpful for working with RS-232 serial ports, MODBUS connections, I/O cards, and other devices that use a DB-9
connector.
Technically, the correct term for a DB9 connector is DE9, but that term is not commonly used.
A breakout board is sometimes referred to as a "transition module", "terminal board", "terminal block", "breakout box", "breakout adapter", "terminator", or "interface module".
Enclosure
The breakout board comes already installed in a sturdy black plastic hood enclosure / shell with a removable cover. A hole in the end provides
ample space for conductors to exit the enclosure, and a convenient strain-relief feature allows wires to be easily secured with a zip tie
in just seconds. A curved channel guides the zip tie (included) around the wire bundle
and back up for cinching.

Terminal Options
This product is available with two different wire terminal options:
Spring Terminals (BRKEGx): Spring terminals allow connections to be made very quickly and efficiently.
Simply depress the actuator button on top of the terminal block, insert or remove the wire, and release the button.
In addition, screwless spring connections can be attractive in environments where vibration could potentially loosen connections.
Screw Terminals (BRKEAx): Each connection is made by turning a screw to tighten the wire in a terminal cage clamp.

Hardware Options
This product is available in two different connector hardware options:
Thumbscrews (-T option): These work well for attaching the product directly to a piece of equipment; the male threads on the thumbscrews directly engage the female threads on the equipment.
Jack Screws (-R option): These provide female threads on the product and work well when attaching the product to a cable, which typically has male thread thumbscrews.

Product Revisions
Revision B of these boards introduce a few minor changes, which are not expected to impact the user:
Enclosure base no longer has a thin bar that extends across the enclosure above the DB9. Instead, the top cover extends further to cover above the DB9.
When the base and cover are assembled, the overall shape is essentially the same as before.
The PCB is attached to the enclosure with plastic snap rivets instead of screws. As before, the PCB is still pre-installed into the enclosure during our production process.
The T-shaped tie-down point for zip-tieing wires is now provided by an extension of the PCB, rather than a separate plastic piece.
The hole for wires to exit the back has been made larger: Rev A: 0.375" diameter circle, Rev B: 0.50" wide x 0.435" tall
Note: We are regularly updating this list, but during the transition, you may receive Rev B products (or both Rev A and Rev B) prior to the list being updated.
If you need to confirm which revision you will receive, please contact us.
