Make connections quickly and reliably with this breakout board, which brings every pin of its 50-pin Mini D Ribbon (MDR) connectors out to screw terminals.
These breakout boards feature two 50-pin MDR connectors (both female) wired 1:1, with all pins connected to screw terminals for easy wiring connections. Having two connectors allows the board to be easily inserted "in-line" with an existing connection, allowing signals to pass through while being monitored, or to work with "daisy-chained" equipment.
Each pin, including shield, is also brought to solder pads (2 per pin) at 0.1" spacing, allowing easy addition of pin headers or other components. Please note that the breakout boards are manufactured with a connection between each connector pin and the corresponding terminal block position; no soldering of any type is necessary. The solder pads simply provide an area for making optional connections to additional headers or other components.
This breakout board is perfect for production applications as well as experimentation and prototype work. It is helpful for working with Servo Drives, Data Aquisition (DAQ) equipment, I/O cards, and other devices that use a Mini D Ribbon connector.
We stock several MDR breakout board styles and form factors. Please have a look here.
A breakout board is sometimes referred to as a "transition module", "terminal board", "terminal block", "breakout box", "breakout adapter", "terminator", or "interface module".
The Mini Delta Ribbon (MDR) series of connectors provides a compact arrangement of durable sliding 'ribbon' contacts. The high contact density and good performance at high speeds have yielded many applications for this connector type. These are 'half-pitch' connectors, meaning that the contact spacing is tighter than full-size Centronics connectors, such as those used on our BRKDC36F or BRKDC50F breakout boards. The 'half-pitch' connectors utilize contacts on 0.05" centers.
Winford Engineering currently utilizes MDR connectors from 3M™ on these breakout boards; connector details are listed below.

Winford Engineering offers 50-pin MDR cables (shown below) which are compatible with these breakout boards.
This breakout board is general-purpose in nature and useful when interfacing to a variety of equipment. The servo drive / servo controller market often uses the 50-pin MDR connector to interface to other equipment. This breakout board is designed to work with this type of system to split out I/O signals for connection to other equipment. Servo equipment with the 50-pin MDR connector, and other compatible connector series includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Some equipment vendors offer breakout modules and cables to accommodate convenient wiring for their equipment. Others offer a cable with a 50-pin MDR connector on one end and wire pigtails on the other end. (One such example is the Mitsubishi MR-J3CCN1CBL cable.) Winford Engineering's MDR breakout boards are intended as an alternative option, terminating the equipment I/O pins on a convenient, compact breakout board.
